Find the Right BARF Block for Your Dog

Every dog is different. Use this guide to find the best protein match.

The Goat & Roo BARF Block is your go-to.

Both goat and kangaroo are novel proteins - meaning most dogs have never been exposed to them, making this the ideal hypoallergenic choice for dogs prone to itching, hot spots, or digestive reactions to common proteins like chicken or beef.

We recommend the Chicken & Sardine BARF Block.

Sardine is one of nature's richest sources of omega-3 fatty acids, making this blend ideal for dogs with dull coats, dry or flaky skin, or those who need an anti-inflammatory boost.

The Beef & Pork BARF Block is a protein-dense, calorie-rich option well suited to active, working, or larger breed dogs. Beef provides iron and creatine for muscle support, while pork adds a complementary amino acid profile.

The Combo BARF Block (Chicken, Beef, Pork & Roo) is the perfect introduction.

Rotating proteins supports microbiome diversity and reduces the risk of developing sensitivities - and it gives you a feel for which proteins your dog responds to best before committing to a single variety.

80:10:10 BARF Block FAQs

Product & Storage
How do I store BARF Blocks? Plus

Keep them frozen until ready to use. Thaw in the fridge overnight or thaw in cold water - never in the microwave, as heat destroys natural enzymes and nutrients. Once thawed, use within 2–3 days.

How many blocks do I get per bag? Plus

Each 5kg bag contains 20 x 250g blocks, making it easy to portion and thaw only what you need.

Are BARF Blocks a complete meal on their own? Plus

Yes. Each blend is formulated to the 80:10:10 ratio - 80% muscle meat, 10% bone and 10% organ - providing a biologically balanced meal without the need for additional supplementation in most cases.

If your dog has specific health needs, a tailored consultation with Dr. Roz can help.

Feeding & Transition
How much should I feed my dog? Plus

A general guide is 2–3% of your dog's ideal body weight per day, split across one or two meals. Each block is 250g, making it simple to calculate portions.

My dog has never eaten raw before — how do I transition? Plus

Start slow. Introduce BARF Blocks gradually over 7–10 days by mixing a small amount with your dog's current food, increasing the ratio each day. Some dogs transition easily; others need a little more time. Loose stools in the first few days are normal as the gut adjusts.

Can I feed BARF Blocks alongside dry food? Plus

We recommend feeding raw and kibble at separate meals rather than mixing them in the same bowl, as they digest at different rates. Many dog parents feed raw in the morning and kibble in the evening, or transition fully to raw over time.

Formulation & Ingredients
What does BARF 80:10:10 mean? Plus

BARF 80:10:10 stands for "Biologically Appropriate Raw Food" or "Bones And Raw Food," and it is a raw feeding guideline for dogs that proposes a raw food diet following specific macronutrient ratios: 80% muscle meat, 10% raw edible bone, and 10% organ meat (which includes a variety of organs such as the liver and kidneys).

This feeding model over time has evolved to include plant matter which can range for 10-20%. This ratio aims to provide a balanced mix of nutrients for pets.

As experts in pet nutrition, we don’t see the 80/10/10 model as complete and balanced for dogs. It is lacking key amounts of micronutrients such as zinc, choline, iodine, copper and therefore treat it as supplemental feeding that would require additional ingredients added to meet FEDIAF nutritional guidelines.

Are there any additives, fillers or preservatives? Plus

None. BARF Blocks contain only whole, natural Australian ingredients. No grains, no artificial preservatives, no fillers - just real food.

Why are there different protein options? Plus

Protein rotation supports microbiome diversity and reduces the risk of developing food sensitivities over time. Different proteins also offer different nutritional profiles - see our guide above to find the best match for your dog.

Where are your ingredients sourced? Plus

We are huge advocates for local sourcing and championing animal welfare, which is why all our meat is sourced both responsibly & sustainably, right here in the Northern Territory.
